Wildcatter 8 Year Old Kentucky Straight Bourbon

The nose…ok, I self admit that I am trying this one after warming up with Weller Special Reserve and Weller Antique 107…so maybe the nose and tastes won’t be amazing…let’s find out…

…This is an 8 year old bourbon…which smells like an old moldy barn…yeah after a second and third wifff…its moldy barn for sure. Maybe a hint of just lit cigarette…it’s not the most inspiring nose. This is a Frank-in product…not a huge fan of their other products…oh wait…I am a HUGE fan of one of their other products…Wathen’s Barrel Proof…which is the best bourbon to drink if you love the taste and smell of fresh cut grass and freshly shucked corn…it is amazing. This is not great on the nose…moving on.

The first sip…no burn…sweet on the tongue before swallowing…mmmm…that is actually nice.

The second sip…it has the hint of the moldy barn, but that is quickly covered by a sweet flavor that finishes nicely. Someone said online that is has an orange or citrus flavor for the finish…bullshit…of course it has been years since I’ve had an orange…but I do know that JDub regularly licks the orange furniture polish off his kitchen table after his wife cleans it because he thinks he is getting vitamin C…

Is it worth it?

It was $35…it’s 8 years old…who should buy this? Bourbon collectors and people who want to try something new. It’s not bad. For that money, I would buy this to give it a shot but if an Eagle Rare was sitting on the shelf next to it…I would just snag the Eagle Rare…unless you are like me and have a bakers dozen already…that’s 13 JDub you lunatic!
