Trails End Bourbon

Intro:  From Trails End website:

Trail’s End® is an ultra-premium, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey finished with Oregon Oak. Crafted using premium barrels of Kentucky straight bourbon, Trail’s End traveled along the treacherous terrain from Kentucky to Oregon, following the path that Lewis and Clark once blazed. Not too far from the end of the Oregon Trail, our bourbon is finished with Oregon Oak and the result is exceptional!

Smell the aroma of floral honeysuckle, apricot, spearmint and orange blossom with roasted hazelnut and traces of cereal sweetness and chocolate. Next, take a sip and enjoy the smooth sweet malt and chocolate flavor bolstered by toasted hazelnut with notes of tobacco and a touch of rye. Lastly, savor the long and warm finish, oily and buttery with a lovely malt spice kick and slight char note.

My Review:

Ok, this was a gamble buy at the Navy Exchange...their website says honeysuckle and a whole bunch of other fruity crap...let's see...no.  It has all of the traits in smell of so many good bourbons, it does smell sweet with a hint of smokiness and not astringent at all.

And now for the taste...Burns the lips and as it sits on the tongue it is burning.  Oh man, the finish is amazing.  A lot like Eagle Rare, I mean a lot.  MMM...that is amazing.  I put some on my palms and rubbed them together, it has an amazing smell, like burnt wood and vanilla.  You get a very earthy smell and taste even with this bourbon.  After the second, third and forth drink, the bourbon does not burn the tongue, it is sweet and grassy, just like I love!

Is it worth the $?

At $40 a bottle, this is one that I am on the fence in saying it is worth it.  It is 8 years old, but I think a $30 price point would make this well worth it.  It's worth having in a collection at this price point but maybe not for a daily drinker.
